Blackout was the theme of my phone this weekend. They text, they called, I did not respond. Lamentation Part 2: I'm grieving for many days, months, and years of wasted time. My heart is tired. Moving onward for 2012.
My grandfather just celebrated his 88th birthday. Love was still in the air. My aunt also turned another year old..I'm sure she has a lamentation of her own.
I imagined her life in her 50s; accomplished with children and a growing number of grandchildren. A woman of great heart giving heart, she suffered years of poverty and have managed to make her way up being comfortable with several homes, two new vehicles, and of course a man to stand by her side for the rest of her life.
She smiled hesitantly. Through conversations, her mind was worried about making everyone comfortable, that there is enough food, while being attentive to all the guests. As she was blowing the cake, I could feel it in her eyes. She held her husband hand, a bit teary, and uncertain of what the future holds for both of them. I can only imagine how it must be to feel so far away from what you called home for the last 50 years of your life, away from your children, your home...Even I couldn't help but cry.
At least they have each other...
This is collection of a few life lessons. I represent both someone who possess endless strengths and inconsolable sadness. You will see a woman who was made to feel shame for her desires and yet had the courage to pursue them anyway. At 23, I thought I found Elizabeth. Now at 35, I long to rediscover her again.
